Delivering Real-World Relevance Through Partnership
Essential to our ability to stay at the forefront of global education are the longstanding partnerships we have built with our overseas partners. 2015 marked a special milestone for one such collaboration – we reached the 10th year mark with the University of Wollongong (UOW). Over the span of a decade, this partnership has produced almost 2,500 graduates.

The partnership with UOW started with the launch of the Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Information Technology programmes. We have since added Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and the Bachelor of Business Information Systems to our collaborative offerings.

SIM GE signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to deliver a Master's programme that will allow accountancy students in Singapore to simultaneously earn the UOL's Master of Science (MSc) in Professional Accountancy and the ACCA professional accounting qualification.

Encouraging a Holistic Education Experience

Engaging Through Arts and Sports
A well-rounded campus life is essential to the holistic development of a learner. With a wide range of extracurricular activities organised by more than 70 clubs, the SIM GE learning experience extends well beyond the classroom to embrace the arts and sports.

Our sport teams participated and won medals yet again at the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic Games and the Singapore University Games.

The SIM Dragonboat Club also made a splash, winning both the Men's and Women's Prime Minister Challenge Trophies at the Singapore Dragonboat Festival. This was the second consecutive year the Club had clinched both titles, with the Men's team’s achievement the third in consecutive years.

For the sixth year running, SIM GE was the title sponsor of the SIM 34th Singapore Open Windsurfing Championship. Running parallel to the main championship was the SIM Windsurfing Championship, at which SIM students clinched five medals.

Performing arts also provides our students with opportunities to express themselves and engage with their peers in a creative setting. Our talented arts clubs staged several major productions in dance, theatre and music.

Bringing a World of Insights at Home and Abroad
Through experiential learning, SIM GE's Global Learning programme equips students with overseas experience, global awareness and intercultural competence necessary for working across borders.

The Global Learning programme initiated its service learning and secured a five-year partnership with Oki Islands in Japan. From 2016 to 2020, SIM GE students will travel to the rural Oki Islands of Shimane Prefecture to assist local residents with reforms using real-world solutions. Activities will include developing English-language teaching resources for schools and collaborating on projects with industries such as tourism and fishery.

In support of the Global Learning programme are two new initiatives: the Global Competence Workshop and the Global Learning Society.

The Global Competence Workshop equips students with the core principles of global competence through a specially designed assessment test, group discussions, and collaborations with others from different walks of life.

The student-led Global Learning Society focuses on the cultural aspects, including learning about foreign dining etiquette, taking part in language exchange programmes and hosting international students on their first visits to Singapore.

Supporting Students’ Study and Well-Being
A suite of support services is in place to support the well-being of students. This includes a Student Wellness Centre to encourage healthy and optimal living through workshops, talks and social activities.

The Student Learning Centre was opened for students to seek free academic advice as well as pick up useful tips such as on written and oral communications.

Assisting Students in Future-Planning
SIM GE launched the Career Connect Office, an interactive space for students to seek assistance and guidance on career development.

Within Career Connect, students are able to join any of the 20 Career Chapters spread over six industry sectors. As members of these Chapters, students can benefit from a host of events and programmes designed to help them define their career aspirations, sharpen their competitive edge and build professional connections. More than 2,500 students have joined since the programme was launched.

The Office also pioneered the Talent Development Programme, an internship programme with the dual benefit of enhancing the employability of students and expanding the talent pool for employers. Fifty students were selected for the development of their competencies through this in-house programme.

Investing in Faculty Training and Development

Partnering the National Institute of Education (NIE), SIM GE launched the inaugural run of the Educational Psychology course for its faculty. The programme provides credit exemptions towards the NIE Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education. In total, 33 lecturers learnt motivational approaches to better engage undergraduate students.

Over 120 lecturers, staff and guests attended the 5th SIM GE Annual Education Conference. This year's keynote speaker, Professor Randy Bass (Vice Provost for Education at Georgetown University) shared strategies and practices to strengthen SIM GE graduate attributes.

The SIM Advanced Certificate in Higher Education Teaching earned the recognition of the Institute for Adult Learning as a WSQ-equivalent qualification for application towards the Associate Adult Educator status.

Taking Our Global Footprint Further
The collaboration between SIM GE and Universitas Pelita Harapan to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration for students in Surabaya entered its second year. Looking ahead, SIM GE will explore several other international locations with the aim of bringing the SIM GE brand and educational expertise overseas.

Strengthening Our Alumni Connections

As part of its progressive roll-out regionally, the SIM GE Overseas Alumni Chapter (OAC) held its first event in Yangon, Myanmar. OAC events were also held in Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City to connect with alumni in those countries.

SIM GE Alumni Engagement staged the 4th CEO Dialogue, where prominent alumni shared leadership insights. Speakers included RMIT University alumnus Lo Kien Fo (Managing Director, Continental Automotive Singapore) and Henley Brunel graduate Jeremy Gwee (Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Singapore).
